The Implant and Implantation Process: What to Expect?

Dental implantation is a common procedure today. It is the best way for both aesthetic and functional tooth replacement. At HanzaDent Dentistry, this has been done daily since 2007. We have thousands of satisfied implantation patients and bright new smiles.
If you’re planning for a dental implant, what should you expect?
- During the implant consultation, a HanzaDent dentist will explain in detail what the implantation surgery involves and how to prepare for it.
- Depending on the situation, the dentist may prescribe antibiotic premedication for the patient, meaning the patient should take the prescribed medication a few hours before the dental implant placement.
- When you arrive at the clinic, the procedure generally begins with a mouth rinse using a special solution that reduces the number of microbes in the mouth.
- Next, the patient sits in the chair, and local anesthesia is administered to the area where the dental implantation will take place (if the procedure is done under general anesthesia, the anesthesia is administered first, followed by the local anesthesia).
- During the procedure, the patient is covered with a sterile drape, with the face or face and upper body under the sterile cloth. The drape has an opening above the patient’s mouth through which the dental implantation is performed.
- The procedure is painless, and according to many patients, it is “more comfortable” and easier to tolerate than, for example, a tooth extraction.
- Once the dental implant is placed in the jawbone, the dentist either completely closes the wound with sutures or places a temporary crown or gum former (a small metal post around which the gum will begin to grow).
- With this, the implantation procedure is complete, and the patient receives instructions on how to care for the implant post-surgery. A follow-up appointment and suture removal are scheduled.
If the patient has any questions or issues arise (such as pain lasting more than 24 hours), they should immediately contact the clinic or the dentist by email or phone. This is very rare, but all HanzaDent Dentistry patients have the opportunity to contact the clinic immediately in case of issues and receive help at the earliest opportunity. Over 97% of dental implants heal and integrate without any problems.
